Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to what we hear most before booking. Don't see your question? Get in touch.
Do I need to call 811 / Diggers Hotline myself?
No. We take care of that for every job. Wisconsin law requires 811/Diggers Hotline to be notified at least 3 business days before any digging, so your scheduled date may shift slightly to allow for that required waiting period.
What happens to the wood chips and debris from grinding?
By default we leave the grindings in place to fill the hole back in. That's standard and included in your quote. If you'd rather have the wood chips and debris hauled away instead, just let us know and we can do that for an added fee.
Do you remove the whole stump, roots and all?
We grind the stump and any large surface roots down below grade, but we don't excavate. Smaller peripheral roots further out and underground stay in place.
How do quotes work if you don't do in-person estimates?
After you submit a preferred date, send us a few photos of the stump(s) and surrounding area. We'll follow up with a free, no-obligation quote based on those. No home visit needed.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Middleton, WI and serve Madison and the surrounding Dane County area within about 25 miles. See the full list of towns we cover.
What if the weather's bad on my scheduled day?
If conditions aren't safe for grinding, we'll reach out to reschedule for the next available day.
Are you insured?
Yes, Deadwood Stump Grinding is fully insured.
